A group of students at East Central High School participated in a program called High School Heroes. Once a week for five weeks, they went to Peary Elementary as student teachers, working with kids ranging from kindergarten to 4th grade.
The high school students were tasked with teaching lessons and leading activities in the classrooms. They were provided curriculum and trained through Junior Achievement. This hands-on teaching experience helped develop skills such as leadership, organization, teamwork, communication, and problem solving. It was also a unique and engaging opportunity for the elementary students to learn from their older peers.
