East Central High School is partnering with Choose Aerospace to launch the aerospace program in the new school year.

Ninth grade students attending East Central High School in the 2022-2023 school year will have the opportunity to build career-ready skills and even earn industry certifications with the school’s new aerospace program. East Central High School is partnering with Choose Aerospace to launch the aerospace program in the new school year.

“There are so many paths to college-and career-readiness,” said Superintendent Deborah Gist. “We are thrilled that East Central students will have the chance to gain hands-on, industry-relevant skills that will prepare them for a career in the aerospace industry.”

The four-course elective program at East Central High School will cover the general knowledge and skill required for Federal Aviation Administration mechanic certification. Students will take one elective career tech class each year of high school to complete the program.

Gist said: “We are extraordinarily grateful to our Tulsa-area aviation partners for supporting East Central High School in the critical work of graduating students who are ready to meet the needs of an ever‐changing workforce.”

“Having a qualified workforce is one of the biggest issues we face as we work to continue growing the aviation industry,” said Choose Aerospace Executive Director Crystal Maguire. “This program was built by industry stakeholders as one solution, and puts students on a direct path to Federal Aviation Administration certification – helping to meet the high demand for aviation technical personnel.”

“This course is an incredible opportunity for our students,” said Gina Wilson, principal at East Central High School. “Aerospace is a booming business and looks to be for a long time – over the next 20 years, the global aviation industry will need 626,000 new aviation mechanics. There is still time to enroll in East Central for the 2022-2023 school year, and we hope you will join us!”

Tulsa Public Schools’ second enrollment window for the 2022-2023 school year will close on Monday, August 1. Families can enroll their children from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays at the Tulsa Public Schools Enrollment Center; or online at www.tulsaschools.org/enroll.
