This week, Tulsa Public Schools announced Jen Sanders as the district’s new deputy director of activities and athletics. Sanders previously served as the district’s assistant athletic director of secondary schools athletics and activities and the district’s physical education coordinator.
In her new role, Sanders will oversee all aspects of student athlete eligibility, OSSAA district compliance, and district coaches’ certification. In addition to those duties, she will also manage operations for the district’s golf, middle school and junior high football, soccer, and softball programs; and will continue supervising 19 secondary schools’ athletics programs.
“I am looking forward to serving as the next deputy director of activities and athletics for Tulsa Public Schools,” said Sanders. “I am extremely excited to move into this new role supporting students, athletes, coaches, and administrators. We have an amazing team here at Tulsa Public Schools and I am thankful to work with so many great colleagues who strive daily to make sure our students and athletes have exactly what they need to be successful.”
In her previous role, Sanders assisted in supervising the district’s wellness program, 19 secondary schools’ athletics programs, 81 schools’ K-12 physical education programs and teachers, 20 site athletics directors, and 400 coaching team members. She also worked collaboratively with Safety Patrol sponsors, Bike Cub, and JROTC.
Sanders has 19 years of experience in teaching, coaching, and athletic administration, including serving in roles such as head girls basketball coach, head girls softball coach, Hale High School’s athletic director for five years, and Will Rogers College High Schools athletic director for two years. Sanders graduated from Muldrow High School in 1999 and holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Northeastern State University and a master’s degree in education administration from the University of Oklahoma.
“I am pleased that Jen will be assuming a new role on our team as she becomes the deputy director of athletics,” said Mick Wilson, executive director of secondary schools student activities and athletics. “Jen is a great person, hard worker, and is extremely loyal and dedicated to the district. She and I have worked together for more than 10 years and have developed a strong bond. She has a great heart for the students of Tulsa Public Schools.”
